The Old Thorns Golf & Country Estate is a huge location in which to hold a wedding.
The wedding co-ordinator drove us out (in a four-seater golf-buggy) to a number of locations across the course to photograph bride & groom Gemma & Micheal. The journey seemed never-ending as we drove from one location to the next. Stunning vistas opened up with vast woodlands parting temporarily to allow golfers to swing their clubs and us to catch a glimpse of the beautifully manicured estate. If only we had been blessed with better weather. Sunshine and blue skies would have transformed this place into a photographer’s paradise.
Gemma and Michael were such a great pair to work with, no doubt because we had already been out on two previous occasions shooting their engagement photographs. We were now used to working with each other and I had freedom to roam with my cameras without either of them feeling uncomfortable.
This was the first wedding I had shot in the UK with the new Fuji X-T2 camera. I had previously shot a wedding in Cyprus less than week earlier with loads of light, but back here in Hampshire, light was of a premium. The camera coped brilliantly. With the added vertical power booster grip, the enhanced performance for low-light focusing was very welcome. My second camera was my Fuji XPro-2, coupled with the tiny 27mm pancake lens, it is my preferred camera+lens combination for unobtrusive photography. Both cameras are able to operate completely silent, this is so useful during the ceremony.
I really enjoyed photographing this wedding, there were some real characters among the guests (to provide fun images) and there were plenty of great-looking kids for the ‘aaaah’ factor. You know, sometimes I drive home at the end of the day and I find myself smiling. I knew I was going to be happy working on these photos. Click on any photo to enlarge them.
